The latest details have been outlined to redevelop the site of the much-loved Boslowick Inn.
Deemed the last surviving out of town public house, The Boslowick Inn is set to have its last weekend and is due to close on Sunday (17th).
If the plans were to go ahead, it would see the demolition of the current pub on Prislow Lane, and the building of 10 houses.
The applicant is OPO Development, and two new documents were submitted on Thursday this week showing the layout of the houses.
OPO Development said they hope to deliver 10 high-quality family homes on the site.
The applicant continues:
"The proposed houses will achieve the development standards expected for an urban brownfield site.
"The properties will have private parking, amenity areas, recycling storage.
"It is considered the redevelopment of the Boslowick Inn site will utilise a site within a sustainable location enabling the delivery of up to 10 high-quality family homes in an existing residential part of Falmouth.
"The public house is no longer a viable business and with ample alternative drinking establishments within Falmouth Town Centre the loss of the unviable public house should not be an overriding factor in the determination of this outline application."
However, residents are still keen to see the building retained as it has such a rich history dating back to 1301, becoming a public house in the mid-1960s.
One comment reads:
"A huge loss of an old beautiful building (that should be a protected property). I can't understand why the Boslowick Inn isn't protected/graded. Not to mention that it is the only public house in our area, along with a play area for children. This would be a prenominal loss to our neighbourhood.
"I feel it should be kept as a public house. Renovate the pub and increase the play area for children and the whole community."
A second reads:
"I believe the demolition of the building and clearance of the site could destroy an area that holds much of the unresearched history of the origins of Falmouth and a community centre that has seen generations of families as residents and customers.
"As well as the much-needed employment of the licensees, their staff and all the local suppliers and tradespeople that the business relies on."
The status of the application is "awaiting decision".
