It has today been announced that Falmouth High Street will be closed to vehicles for five hours a day to help with social distancing.

In the lead up to shops reopening on Monday 15th June, the Council have created a plan to help people feel safe when returning back to the town centre.

In an email to businesses, Town Manager Richard Gates said: "

"I know many businesses and also many residents have been asking if the roads can be closed during the daytime to help with social distancing and make people feel safe when returning to the town centre.

"Please make sure your deliveries are in as early as possible to make the streets more pedestrian-friendly.

"Yellow advisory signage will be placed out next week in advance of the 15th June.

"This is a fluid situation and as with all the detailed planning for the town, things are evolving all the time.

"It will be reviewed in detail per month."

From Monday 15th June between 11am-4pm, will be the following:

1) High Street closed to vehicles from 11am. This will be closely monitored due to traffic and the volume on the terraces.

2) Market Street/ Church Street/ Arwenack Street closed from 11am.

3) Quay Hill and Quay Street have the option to be closed if required and this will be closely monitored.

4) The Moor and Market Strand also have the option to be closed but to begin with, will stay open.

4) Church Street car park closed (from 11am), cars can park before then and leave after so there will still be some vehicles through the streets.

5) The town shuttle bus will continue to run through the town centre (and the closure) and this will also be closely monitored.
