Falmouth G7 roundup: The top stories and talking points from day one of the summit

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

The G7 Summit got underway in Cornwall today and Nub News was right in the thick of the action, reporting from the International Media Centre in Falmouth.

The Events Square site was significantly busier today as all eyes were on the world leaders touching down in Newquay for talks in the afternoon.

In the morning, we received the news that the Queen would be travelling to Cornwall, to meet G7 members at The Eden Project.

Incredible aerial footage was shared to us of the view of the media centre from the sky, shot by 3deep Aerial with a drone.

Protests also began in the afternoon, with more set to take place over the weekend. The Cornwall Youth Climate Alliance took to Gylly Beach and then moved to the outside of the Media Centre, a peaceful protest but made themselves very vocal.

The biggest highlight of the day was the official meeting of all G7 members, and the family photo before talks got underway at Carbis Bay.

The message from Boris Johnson was clear, in a statement he told reporters they wanted to achieve:

"Building back together, building back fairer, building back greener and more equal."

What's to come tomorrow?

We have a very exciting opportunity to explore Fal River's new Hybrid Electric Ferry which is on show for the G7.

More guests will arrive (UN Secretary General is expected), further talks will take place and there will be other family photo opportunities.

Stay tuned!
