Falmouth G7: Police "honoured" to be trusted with summit - size of the operation revealed

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

Superintendent Jo Hall of Devon & Cornwall Police has revealed the size of the G7 operation as the summit start edges closer.

With just two days to go until the summit, security in Carbis Bay, Newquay, and here in Falmouth is ramping up.

In the latest update of the media operation, Superintendent Jo Hall said Devon & Cornwall Police are "honoured and proud" to have been trusted with the responsibility for the policing command of the G7 Summit.

"We are excited to play our part in this historic opportunity for

Cornwall," she added.

What can we expect to see from the police throughout the summit?

This will be the biggest security operation the force has ever been involved in, and the largest in England and Wales this year.

Local people can expect all visiting officers to uphold the approachable community policing style.

Residents, businesses and visitors can expect to see an increased police presence and more extensive security measures in place.

On criminal behaviour, Jo Hall commented:

"Any criminals looking to disrupt the Summit will be dealt with in a robust yet proportionate manner. Where offences occur, Devon & Cornwall Police will investigate thoroughly and strive to bring offenders to justice. Our response to incidents and day-to-day demand will not be compromised by the policing of the G7 Summit."

The size of the operation

  • Around 6,500 officers and staff will be deployed in total across the operation.

  • Around 5,000 officers have been brought in from other forces under mutual aid arrangements, representing every force in the UK.

  • 5,000 rooms at around 200 accommodation sites in Devon and Cornwall, including 1,000 on a ferry moored in Falmouth.

  • 16,000 meals a day to officers and staff.

  • Around 150 police dogs will be deployed.

  • Around 1,000 police vehicles will be in use during the summit.
