Falmouth: Decision made on Uneeka's bid to build new cafe
Plans have been approved for Uneeka to renovate its Market Street shop and build a tea garden.
A decision was made this week (7th) by Cornwall Council.
Uneeka submitted plans to provide improved internal disabled access, and alterations to form a tea garden with a café terrace to the existing ground floor flat roof. Installation of a toilet. As well as kitchen and pot wash facilities and a dumb waiter on the second floor.
As reported in April, the application was recommended for approval by Falmouth Town Council with Cllr Jewell urging support for local businesses.
The premises would be similar to their furniture shop and cafe in Truro.
A concluding statement from Cornwall Council's planning officer read: "The proposed introduction of a café use at upper floor level above an existing retail use within the defined town centre is supported by the Falmouth NDP. The development could help to increase footfall in the town centre and would also enhance the vitality of the town centre.
"It is considered to be appropriate in terms of its siting, scale, design and appearance having regard to the character of the area, and it is considered that the proposed development would enhance the character and appearance of the Falmouth Conservation Area to a limited degree by reason of its good quality design and appearance. It is considered unlikely that there would be any material adverse impacts upon the amenities enjoyed by nearby residential occupiers. The proposed development would not increase the amount of surface water run-off from the site and therefore there would not be any increased flood risk to third parties.
"The proposed development is considered to accord with the policies of the development plan and there are no other material considerations that lead me to any conclusion other than that planning permission should be approved, subject to conditions."
