'You have got to support businesses': Uneeka's bid to open tea garden at Falmouth shop
Uneeka is aiming to renovate its Market Street shop and build a cafe.
The application went before Falmouth Town Council's planning committee last night (4th).
Uneeka had submitted plans to provide improved internal disabled access, and alterations to form a tea garden with a café terrace to the existing ground floor flat roof. Installation of a toilet. As well as kitchen and pot wash facilities and a dumb waiter on the second floor.
The premises would be similar to their furniture shop and cafe in Truro.
Based at the former Henri Lloyd shop on Market Street, Uneeka now hopes the pop up shop will become a permanent fixture with the renovations.
The application took a positive step at the meeting last night after the committee voted to support the application.
Councillor Kirkham commented on the plans:
"This would be like the one in Truro which has a lovely cafe."
Councillor Jewell added:
"You have got to support businesses."
However, not everyone was happy with the plans. Councillor Spargo said the application could be seen as "unneighbourly" - overlooking other residential areas.
"How many cafes have we got in Falmouth? I just think it underlines other businesses," he added.
The committee recommended approval of the application - which will now go to Cornwall Council.
