A Falmouth bottle shop is looking for a licence to open as a bar.

Green Elephant Beer Cellar, Market Strand, has applied for a licence to serve alcohol on-site from 10am until 10pm.

Run by Dom Lilly, he has been using Temporary Events Notice (TENs) over the last 6-8 months to open on Fridays and Saturdays to test the market.

The application was discussed at a Falmouth Town Council licensing meeting this week (13th)

"These nights have gone well but due to the limited number of TENs it has been difficult to build a crowd," Dom said in a letter to the committee.

He continued: "We are expensive but we are looking to provide you with a beer that you may never have had before. The aim is to create a Eurostar cafe bar where people will have one or two beers before or after a show.

"On the nights we have opened we have had nothing but positive feedback. We usually close at 9pm-9:30pm, apart from Fridays and Saturdays when we will be open until around 10pm.

"Having this licence will enable us to serve on the premises during the day. We think this will be the biggest plus for the business. It will create that cafe culture with people having one or two drinks at lunchtime."

The committee voted to support the application which will now go to Cornwall Council.
