The Cornwall FA recently visited Falmouth Community Youth FC to present a volunteer with a special award.

Last week, Penny Hodgson was handed the Club or League Official of the Year Award as part of the FA and McDonald's Grassroots Awards 2021.

The Club or League Official of the Year Award recognises volunteers that work tirelessly to support a club or league to run from an administrative perspective.

Penny first got involved with Youth Football around 6 years ago after her sons showed an interest in the sport and has since taken on the secretary role at Falmouth Youth Community Football Club.

Penny explained that she gets great joy from her role by saying:

"I happily give up my time to be Secretary for Falmouth Community Youth Football Club because it is rewarding in so many different ways.

"I love the happy smiling faces of all the children on a Saturday morning; the excitement of winning a match (the children and me!); the knowledge that those children can play matches because I know they are all registered. The compliments I receive on a regular basis from members and those wishing to join, praising the club and all the volunteers; the new friends I've made along the way; and a belief in the positive and inclusive ethos of the club.

"Being part of a fabulous team of coaches, committee members, and parent helpers is the best part of my role. The huge success of the club as it has grown over the years wouldn't have been possible without all the amazing volunteers who give up their time."

When asked what winning the award meant to Penny explained:

"I am very dedicated to doing the best job I can as Secretary so winning this award means a great deal to me. Knowing that I have been recognised for doing a good job makes me feel incredibly proud and humbled to be picked above so many other deserving winners in our club and others."
