There has been growing concern that the Falmouth Christmas light may not be happening this year, this comes from a number of towns across the UK that have announced they will not be having lights.

Several local councils have reportedly cancelled this year's Christmas lights due to rising costs and fears that they would not be able to afford the bill, in Devon Budleigh Salterton the local Chamber of Commerce have said they no longer feel they will be able to afford to put on the Christmas lights by themselves.

Many other towns over the country have already announced they will not be having Christmas lights, in Guildford, the council announced the lights would not be affordable or justifiable.

Back in Cornwall, St Ives switched their lights on last week to try to support business in town with more footfall but just earlier this month there were concerns over the lights with a Facebook post from St. Ives Christmas Light with ILUX saying, "WE NEED YOUR HELP! This year is costing more and without support, it may not be able to go ahead" The group also asked if people would like to sponsor a light or any part of the event.

Richard Gates Falmouth Town manager wanted to make it clear that Falmouth residents have no reason to worry, "To clarify we are absolutely going ahead with the Christmas Lights within the town, we moved to low energy led several years ago which is obviously a huge help now with rising energy costs."

The lights will be switched on Thursday the 24th of November and there will be news soon over who will be switching on the lights, "We will be sending out details for the nominations this week. It is always either a person/people/group from the community who should be recognised for their efforts." Richard added.
