Falmouth cafe to host online cook-along to help people chef in isolation

By The Editor 16th Sep 2021

A Falmouth cafe is holding an online cook-along to teach people to cook a variety of recipes while in quarantine

Meg Vanstone, Owner of The Pier Falmouth, is leading the live stream on Saturday morning to keep engaged with their regular customers as well as newbies to the cafe.

Meg told Nub News:

"I want customers and people watching to get involved as much as possible, they can suggest what they want us to make for next time.

"We have a really good following already, we have the same people coming in twice a day, people asking for specials to come back on - so this is a really good way to stay doing what we were doing."

The live cook-along will be hosted on The Pier Falmouth Facebook page and will teach viewers how to cook Kedgeree, a hearty brunch-time rice dish with smoked haddock - mixing it up with a breakfast martini to side.

Kedgeree recipe:

  • 250g Basmati Rice
  • 350g of smoked haddock (preferably undyed)
  • 1 white onion,
  • 2 cloves of garlic
  • Handful of parsley,
  • 1 red chilli
  • 2 lemons
  • 4 eggs
  • 500ml Vegetable or fish stock
  • Madras Curry Powder
  • Smoked Paprika
  • Salt and pepper
  • A little vinegar for egg water

Breakfast martini recipe:

  • 50ml Gin
  • 15ml Cointreau
  • 15ml lemon juice
  • 1tsp of marmalade
  • Shaker and a martini glass if you have

The Pier Falmouth, situated on Prince of Wales Pier, has been closed for almost a month now following governments lockdown guidelines.

The cafe is not currently doing deliveries or takeaways but is open to the idea of starting something up as time goes on.

The live stream will take place at 10am on Saturday morning, if it goes well, the cafe plans to keep it a regular occurrence.
