Falmouth: August rail strikes enter second week, no replacement buses

Rail strikes have entered their second week this month and will impact Falmouth and the rest of the Great Western Railway network.

The remaining strike days are Thursday 18th and Saturday 20th August.

GWR has advised passengers to 'only travel if absolutely necessary' and has said trains that can operate are expected to be 'extremely busy'. There will be no replacement bus services.

This month's industrial action marks the third month of disruption, with strikes in June and July, and on 13 August having already taken place this year.

What days will be affected by the strikes?

Tuesday 16 August

Normal timetable.

Wednesday 17 August

Normal timetable. Minor changes to late-night services.

Thursday 18 August

No trains on all Cornwall branch lines (including Falmouth and Penryn).

Limited service otherwise, only travel 'if absolutely necessary'.

Friday 19 August

Trains will continue to be disrupted. Only travel 'if absolutely necessary'.

Reduced level of service throughout the day.

Saturday 20 August

An extremely limited service operate. Services will start later and finish much earlier than normal.

No rail services in Cornwall, including all branch lines.

Sunday 21 August

Normal timetable, but services will start later.

Can I get a refund?

GWR is allowing people with tickets for travel on strike days to be able to travel on the day before and up to and including Tuesday 23 August.

If you have already bought a ticket, you can get a full refund or amend your journey. If you travel and are delayed by 15 minutes or more, you might be able to claim 'delay repay' compensation.
