The application to change one of the conditions of The Rosslyn Hotel student development have been withdrawn.

Back in 2018 permission was granted to redevelop the Rosslyn Hotel, on Trescobeas Road, and turn it into a 117 bed student block.

The change of condition would have seen the 24-hour onsite management changed to on-call - which was met with some frustration by community groups and residents.

However, that has now been withdrawn.

Explaining the reason behind the application, the security company CRM wrote:

"In our experience of managing multiple sites across the UK 24/7 static security is very rare. Instead many of our successful schemes are run via 24/7/365 national call centre.

"With strategic design, strong communication with local stakeholders and sympathetic student management, the scheme can be made a very comfortable place in which to make a home, within a safe and friendly environment."

However, this was not supported by either Falmouth Town Council or the Devon & Cornwall Police Architectural Liaison Officer, who commented:

"This application to vary the condition is not supported by ourselves.

"We feel that the presence of a 24/7 management site presence is a far better alternative for both the site security and student wellbeing/safeguarding than those now being suggested."

Falmouth Town Council recommended refusal due to "insufficient detail" within the Management Plan.

Over 20 comments were left by local residents of the site with many, if not all opposing this change.
