"We are staring down the worst recession in 300 years due to Coronavirus and it is becoming really obvious how many people rely on them, we need to support our local community," Alex Boswell said on his motivation for the mammoth task.
On the 25th July Truro resident, Alex will set off on a long 320km (200+ mile) trip to every single food bank in Cornwall - including Penryn and Falmouth.
His route will see him start at Truro Foodbank and stop along the way at food banks in; St Austell, Liskeard, Saltash, over the Tamar Bridge and up to Tavistock, before heading back to Cornwall and on to Callington, Launceston, Wadebridge, Helston and Falmouth/Penryn, before finishing back where it all began in Truro.
Alex told Nub News:
"I ride for Truro Cycling Club and I am on their committee, a month or so ago we decided to take on a set of fundraising goals after we were unable to do our regular memorial race for Alzheimer's.
"I decided I would plan a few routes and suggestions for people and one of them was to cover all the foodbanks."
Alex started cycling just over a year ago, and this will be his longest ride he has attempted to date, "I thought it would be a great challenge and method to help those in our society who really need it," he said.
Alex continued:
"A few people at the club have already completed their rides but nobody is doing one quite this long.
"I haven't got a set finish time but I am hoping to complete it in about 12-13 hours including stops, probably a bit longer. It is a one day ride, I will be starting at the crack of dawn and rolling out to get back before it gets too dark.
"I will have a spare bike in my car, my girlfriend and my dog will be there. My parents still live just outside Tavistock so they said they might come down and we can have a socially distance hello because I haven't seen them both since lockdown started. Other than that it is self-supported really."
