Rich Pearson who is an occasional quiz master at The Front pub in Falmouth has created a fundraiser that is aiming to raise £2,000 in order to install a life-saving defibrillator on Custom House Quay.

On the website Rich explained the need for a defibrillator, they said: "The nearest one to Custom House Quay is 250 yards away at the Events Square car park, which whilst close, sadly proved not close enough when one person lost their life on CHQ in 2022 due to cardiac arrest."

So far £1,090 has been raised and if the target is surpassed any money left over will be put towards purchasing a defibrillator for the Gas Works Car Park in Falmouth.

Resuscitation Council Uk an organisation that develops guidelines, influences policy, and supports life-saving research has a simple explanation of how they work: "A defibrillator gives a jolt of energy to the heart, which can help restore the heart's rhythm, and get it beating normally again. This simple piece of equipment is easy to use and doesn't require training, but it could make the difference between life and death."

Rich has also provided some great stats on the website for the Crowdfunder, "In the USA, over 1,700 lives are saved each year by AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators). The chances of surviving cardiac arrest raise from 6% with CPR alone, to 74% with the use of a defibrillator. They are demonstrably important, and should be as ubiquitous as possible.
