Nicola Congdon is a zoologist that runs The Creature Feature show, which doubles up as a radio show and a community Interest company that provides essential support to people and animals.
Nicola has previously run a Preventing Pet Poverty campaign, In 2022 alone, the campaign supported over 1000 pets locally and some further afield. They were able to provide food, beds, coats, leads, collars, toys, and harnesses.
In some cases, the campaign saved pets from being abandoned, euthanized, or handed over to stretched overflowing rescues and helped many owners in crisis with referrals to food banks.
Now Nicola has started a fundraiser to try to set up a warm space in Falmouth for people and pets, she said that during the campaign they had been contacted by people looking for pet-friendly spaces.
On the site for the fundraiser, they say the warm space will help with supporting vulnerable and lonely people, allowing them to be involved in activities, or enjoy a warm drink.
The warm space will also provide support for those struggling with the cost of living by turning part of the space into a food bank for pets, this will help owners who can't afford the rising costs of looking after an animal.
Nicola was hopeful this warm space will be vital for everyone in the community as no person or pet should go hungry or cold.
She also made clear that all the money raised will be used towards paying for core costs and energy bills to ensure the warm space is open as much as possible.
Although they have yet to find a location for the warm space Nicola told Nub News that she has recently viewed a place and is waiting to hear from the estate agent, but if this doesn't work she will be trying to find a suitable location as soon as possible.
