Coronavirus: Falmouth & Penryn household waste recycling centre closes

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

All household waste recycling centres (HWRC) have been closed today following the Government's announcements restricting movements due to COVID-19.

Cornwall Council announced this morning that all 14 HWRCs in Cornwall would now be closed following the latest updates on guidance.

At the weekend there were queues of up to two hours at some of the centres as people took advantage of the good weather and restrictions to clear their gardens and do DIY.

In its announcement the council said:

"All 14 Household Waste and Recycling Centres will now be CLOSED until further notice.

"Please note that kerbside collections of waste and recycling continue, so please place your bags and recycling out for your usual collection times."

Cornwall Council last week issued new advice for households which have had possible Coronavirus infections and how to deal with their waste.

The authority said any waste such as tissues and cleaning cloths should be double bagged and kept separate from other waste and left for three days before being put out for collection.

The council said:

"Personal waste (such as used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths should be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste. This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put out for collection on your next collection day."

The council has said that all kerbside collections of rubbish and recycling will continue as normal.
