Back in July, there was a Protest planned at Cornwall Council Ships & Castles meeting after GLL (now A Charitable Social Enterprise. -better) who ran the Ships and Castles centre for Cornwall Council announced that they could no longer afford to keep it running.

The people of Falmouth came together to support the Pendennis Leisure group which started a Crowdfunder to raise money and prove to Cornwall Council that if the site was devolved to Falmouth Town Council and the community they would be able to afford to re-open the swimming pool. The Crowdfunder was hugely supported by the people of Falmouth with initial target reached in one day.

In the final Cornwall cabinet meeting of 2022 which was this morning (14th of December) the councillors voted unanimously to approve the devolution of Pendennis Headland, Cllr David Harris said: "It just shows that teamwork makes it work."

Councillor Kirstie Edwards- Deputy Mayor for Falmouth shared the good news on social media, she said: "The people of Falmouth now "own" Pendennis Headland. So much gratitude to Cllr Jude Robinson in particular for all her work on this and our officers, in particular Mark Williams, along with our network area Liason Esther Richmond and others at Cornwall Council."

Gemma Adams from Pendennis Leisure shared a video message on social media as she reacted to the decision, she said they were delighted and couldn't thank Falmouth Town Council enough for helping them realise their vision of protecting the site and hopefully reopening the pool. Gemma also thanked the whole community for voicing their opinions and making Cornwall Council listen.

The group also shared this message along with the video: "There's still lots to do for us to realise the ambition of getting a pool back open, but this Cornwall Council decision is a milestone towards that outcome."
