Residents of Penryn have been voicing concerns over the roadworks that are underway today, forcing the closure of the main route on Penryn Town Centre.

"Urgent" work is going on at Lower Market Street, to "hoist in carriageway for substation works."

First Group Buses posted on social media this morning:

"All services are running to time. We are unable to serve Penryn Town Centre or station due to roadworks we were not informed of. Buses will divert via Browns Hill and Commercial Road. We expect this to be until 16:00."

On the One Network roadworks map, it states the work is expected to be completed by 16:30.

A picture of the closure was shared on social media by a resident, with others commenting, one resident said:

"That's a huge crane for a small street. How long is it there for? What's it working on?"

A second said:

"They came into the Pharmacy when I was working and said the crane will be over the top of the pharmacy at one point, so we would have to close for a bit."

A third added:

"That's a serious bit of crane-age what the hell they doing? That's more than a transformer change with the backup truck carrying counterweights."
