Falmouth's Pizza Express looks to be safe from closure.

Yesterday, the restaurant chain announced it is to close 73 outlets as part of a company voluntary arrangement.

The company revealed which outlets would close nationally and Falmouth was not listed.

Pizza Express blamed the closures on the pandemic but admitted that whilst most of its outlets were trading profitably, earnings were declining.

The cost of re-opening restaurants and uncertainty over the economy meant that the rents paid on-premises were too much for Pizza Express to bear, a company statement continued.

Around 1,100 jobs will go nationally, but the company hopes the move will save 9,000 jobs.

Earlier this month, as Pizza Express said it planned to close outlets, which it did not name at the time, the company said those outlets which had already re-opened were not affected.
