Feedback from a pre-application was given this week for a proposal to build a new campsite in Mabe.

There are worries over building a new campsite on an agricultural field in Mabe, near Penryn.

Submitted by Steven Booth, plans were presented to build on an agricultural site at Carnstead, Antron Hill.

Work would see a new campsite built on property grounds. The campsite would feature camping pods, bell tents, a portable shower block, and office.

Access to the campsite would be via an existing entrance on the Estuary View estate - with the road extended into the field to allow for parking.

However, the pre-application did not receive support from the development officer Mark Ball.

Although the new campsite would have benefits in terms of economic benefits from the construction phase, increased spend from tourists in the local economy, providing additional employment opportunities, and potential economic benefits for local businesses in servicing the development. It is thought the concerns outweigh the benefits.

Mark Ball stated the issues were regarding encroachment of development into the undeveloped countryside, potential adverse landscape and visual impacts and harm to the character of the area, and any noise from the site.

"These concerns are considered to outweigh the benefits of the proposed development and the proposal would therefore fail to comply with the policies of the Development Plan taken as a whole," Ball added.

"Unfortunately officers are not able to support your proposal," he continued.
