A Penryn resident has recalled to Nub News the harrowing experience of losing and eventually finding her beloved parrot.

Natasha Franks, Penryn, was at home on Friday afternoon when she noticed Rio the Parrot had escaped from his Avery.

Natasha had a bouncy castle in the garden and had just walked inside to put some dishes away, by the time she got back outside, Rio had escaped and was flying out towards the fields.

Natasha has known Rio since he was two weeks old.

Natasha told us how she would visit Ivybridge near Plymouth every week to meet Rio at the seller's home until he was old enough to come home with her and her children.

Natasha told Nub News:

"We searched and called for him everywhere we could think of until 10 pm and then started again at 4.30 am and the same the following day.

"He is like one of my best friends, being a single parent he is my company and keeps me sane.

"My amazing friend Jodie helped me search and keep me from breaking down.

"We searched everywhere, we checked every farm and anywhere else we thought he could be hiding in a five-mile radius of the house.

"We shared to every Facebook group, lost animals, wildlife, bird watchers, local group pages, anything we could think of. We walked through every wooded area we could find."

Natasha said they never stopped calling for Rio, so much so that they almost lost their voice.

Come Sunday, it wasn't looking good for finding Rio, despite the massive amount of traction social media posts had gotten, there had been no sightings of him anywhere.

Natasha received a call late Sunday afternoon and it was the news she was hoping for, Rio was safe and sound.

"We both burst into tears and raced to the house as fast as we could. Rio has a certain colour ring on his foot so when I saw him and saw his ring, I couldn't even talk, it was my baby and he was okay," Natasha told us.

Rio had flown to a family's house in Truro, with young children at Natasha's home, Rio had been attracted to the sound of children playing in the garden.

"The family was amazing, kept him safe and wanted nothing for their trouble. I can not thank them enough and everyone that has looked out for him."

The community has been responding to the news of Rio's return, as many people were invested in hoping he got home safe.

"So glad you found him, he went for a little adventure," said one resident.

"I heard you calling for him again this morning you didn't give up I'll give you that one. That's made my day," said another resident.
