Community Power Cornwall, a cooperative that delivers community energy projects in Cornwall, is partnering with Penryn-based charity BF Adventure to scope out renewable energy opportunities on its 60-acre site. Not only will this enable BF Adventure to advance towards carbon neutrality, but it will also provide significant opportunities, as an educational charity, to inspire future generations about sustainability.

A community engagement plan is in place to seek views, input, and support from local stakeholders, with a community consultation event being held at BF Adventure on Saturday 26th November.

Project focus

The project goal is to support BF Adventure's aspiration to minimise its environmental impacts and ultimately become carbon neutral. Doing so will also generate significant utility savings, enabling BF Adventure to invest more money into delivering its charity work with Cornwall's vulnerable children and young people.

As an outdoor education charity providing youth work programmes and school residentials, this 'Environmental Education for All' project also presents a fantastic opportunity to highlight real examples of renewable technology and inspire today's young people about environmental sustainability.

Engaging the local community

Whilst it is anticipated that developments will require minimal planning permissions, both Community Power Cornwall and BF Adventure are committed to involving the local community in dialogue about the possibilities on the site.

Locals based within 5km of BF Adventure, those within Mabe or Constantine Parish, those within the Zone of Theoretical Visibility, and all residents with TR10 and TR11 postcodes are classed as belonging to the local community and are invited to have an input.

Identified stakeholders include residents; Parish Councils of Mabe and Constantine; Landowners; Communities of interest; Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, business associations, community development trusts, social enterprises, and community action organisations; Climate change action groups within 5km of the site and Independent Local Social Media Groups.

Consultation Event on 26th November

Local stakeholders are openly invited to a Community Engagement Event on Saturday 26th November at BF Adventure. This will be an opportunity to hear about the existing renewables on-site and preliminary findings, engage in Q&A, and provide feedback, which will inform the final draft of the feasibility report. The event will take place in BF Adventure's Adventure Barn, with a 10:30 am arrival for an 11 am start. Click here for more details.
