Falmouth Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked this afternoon to Maenporth after a dog went over a cliff edge.

At around quarter to four the team, assisted by Porthoustock Coastguard Rescue Team and a full time Senior Coastal Operations Officer, were called to rescue a dog and a passerby who went down the cliff to help.

Both were stuck on a ledge about halfway down the 80-100ft cliff.

A rescue plan was put together and Falmouth Lifeboat was tasked to attend.

A specialist rope rescue technician was lowered to the casualty, who was then placed in a rescue harness, then the dog placed into the safety of an animal rescue bag on a line connected to the clifftop.

The technician and human casualty were then lowered to the bottom and he was handed over to the ILB crew and transported back to the beach.

The technician was then hauled back up the cliff to the dog and he was reconnected back into the rope system. Both were successfully recovered to the top and the dog handed back to the owners.

"A great example of teamwork form all services. Please keep your dogs on leads near cliffs," Falmouth Coastguard said.
