Yesterday, 9,700 households in Truro and Falmouth received the first of three cost-of-living support payments worth £301. By November 2023 this will total £900 paid to all families across the UK receiving means-tested benefits, with some families receiving up to £1,350 of support.

Cherilyn Mackrory MP (Member of Parliament for Truro & Falmouth), said: "In times of difficulty, it is important that communities come together. I am proud of the support this Conservative Government has given to help the most vulnerable in Cornwall and across the United Kingdom.

"These payments will help families with changes to day-to-day costs caused by the pandemic and Putin's invasion of Ukraine. They will be accompanied by an additional £150 for people receiving disability benefits and a £300 payment on top of Winter Fuel Payments for pensioners at the end of 2023."

The government says the support builds on the previous cost of living assistance including £1,500 off energy bills for the most vulnerable and will be paid for through a windfall tax on energy company profits.

Announcing this support, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, said: "We're working flat out to halve inflation and grow the economy, but I want to make sure everyone has peace of mind about the cost of living."
