Cherilyn Mackrory calls for Blue Growth Plan for Falmouth
Truro and Falmouth's Member of Parliament Cherilyn Mackrory has asked Cabinet Office Minister Michael Gove if he will join her in working to establish an ambitious Blue Growth plan for the port of Falmouth as part of the clean and green G7 Legacy for Cornwall.
Speaking in Parliament, Cherilyn said:
"The G7 in Cornwall is fast approaching, and we are very much looking forward to it. Post summit, Cornwall looks for a legacy that will enhance a clean, green future for businesses. Will my right hon. Friend support me in establishing an ambitious blue growth plan for the port of Falmouth that ensures that Truro and Falmouth, and the whole of Cornwall, can feel long-term economic benefits from the summit?"
In response, Cabinet Minister Michael Gove replied:
"It sounds like a brilliant idea. I know that this investment in Falmouth will not cost us a packet; I know that it will be a good investment for the future. Absolutely: we need to make sure that the G7, which is coming to Cornwall for all the right reasons, leaves a lasting legacy of environmentally sustainable investment. I look forward to working with my hon. Friend for precisely that goal."
Speaking after the debate, Cherilyn said:
"I never miss an opportunity to highlight Falmouth and its potential in Parliament and I was pleased to bring up the potential that we have as the third largest natural harbour in the world."
"As a champion of everything sustainable, Blue growth, the long term strategy to support sustainable growth in the marine and maritime sectors as a whole, is something very close to my heart and I was delighted to hear Michael Gove's positive reply on this. I look forward to working with him for this future investment for Falmouth."
