Falmouth charitable organisation, Community Heart, have secured a location for a community orchard that aims to combat a variety of different issues in the town.
Robin Markland, the creator of the organisation, has secured a plot of land on The Beacon and plans to begin planting trees in April.
The aim of the orchard is to be a "beautiful little oasis in the heart of Falmouth" and looks to be "a special space for nature and families alike."
The charity wants to get the community involved in the process of creating the "Friends of Falmouth Community Orchard" and is offering volunteers to help plant trees.
A public consultation will be taking place on the 2nd March where the community are invited to have their say on what they want to see from the hub and orchard.
Robin Markland told Nub News:
"It's a nice and sheltered spot as there is a substantial existing hedgerow. The trees won't block any view as will be lower than the hedge.
"The Falmouth Community Orchard is the start of many great things like this for Falmouth."
The community orchard will be running along with a fundraiser shop and hub, which will house a community fridge to help combat food poverty in the homeless and low-income households.
The fridge will also be available to everyone who is interested in cutting down on food waste and helping the environment.
The fundraising shop will use the money raised from selling donated items to keep the fridge stocked with fruit and vegetables and maintain the community orchard.
The Hub also plans to be a community space for security and sociability - with holistic therapies, a hygiene and contraception bank, an affordable cafe and a meeting space for local organisations to use.
The fundraiser has currently raised over £2,500 and is attempting to reach £8000. You can find out more by pressing the red button below.
