The owner of Falmouth's Castle Beach Cafe, Fiona Crump has expressed her "heartfelt gratitude" as the community rallied to provide free school lunches for local children.
MPs voted against offering school lunches free of charge during half-term, as we brought you the news last week that Fiona took matters into her own hands offering to make up lunch bags for children in the local area.
A GoFundMe page was set up and in just over two days the total sits at £3,805 - with £1500 being donated in cash as well as lots of crisps, snacks and drinks.
On social media Fiona wrote:
"You are all truly wonderful people. I have been completely overwhelmed by your kindness and generosity over the last few days.
"My heartfelt gratitude goes out to every single person who has commented on a post or messaged me with kind words, to everyone who has donated online or in person, who has given cash or food or offers of help.
"The GoFundMe page has so far raised just under £3500 and I have also been given almost £1500 in cash as well as a mountain of crisps, snacks and drinks.
"We have far more than we need and will be able to make a substantial donation to both the Penryn & Falmouth Foodbank and the CPR Foodbank who will continue to feed children and their families throughout the year.
"In addition and perhaps most importantly we are doing what we set out to do - providing lunches for local children and that makes me very proud.
"Please continue being the wonderfully kind and generous people that you are."
