This week MPs voted against offering school lunches free of charge during half term.
Click here as Cornish MPs explained the decision to vote against the motion yesterday.
Now, the owner of Castle Beach Cafe in Falmouth has taken the matter into her own hands offering to make up free lunch bags.
Putting forward the idea last night, Fiona Crump will be offering the lunches across the counter completely free of charge.
The idea has blown up with the original post being shared 3,000 times and Fiona being inundated with calls.
On the phone as I arrived at the cafe, I managed to grab some time with Fiona, she told Nub News:
"I was reading a news article about all the Cornish MPs voting against free school lunches, I just despair sometimes, then I got angry, then I thought anger was pointless because action is what changes things.
"It has been a challenging year for hospitality, it has been a challenging year for everyone and this community has supported me and I have been really grateful so I thought how could I give back?"
Fiona said anything left will be given to the local foodbank.
Not expecting such a reaction and just offering a simple gesture, she added:
"We have been there, dreading not being able to pay the bills and I feel incredibly privileged not to be there at this stage in my life.
"There is not a child in the world who wants to be hungry, it just doesn't sit right with me that."
Fiona is hoping to set up a fundraising page soon that will be posted onto the cafe Facebook page.
