Plans have been withdrawn to offer out Falmouth student apartments in the summer months.

Submitted by Empiric Student Property, the proposal for Ocean Bowl, Pendennis Rise, would've seen the 190-bed student block opened during the summer months for use by non students from the 1st June to 31st August for each calendar year.

Target audience for this accommodation was corporate (accommodation for contractors, consultants, or employees) to recent graduates, visiting staff to educational institutions, and young professionals. Not for tourists that stay in hotels or B&Bs.

The application was met with opposition from Save Our Falmouth and Falmouth Town Council.

Falmouth Town Council recommended refusal of the application stating:

"The removal of condition 17 would have a detrimental effect on holiday trade during the peak summer months and a further detrimental effect on nearby residents in terms of noise and disturbance and increased demands on parking. Residents are looking for and deserve some rest bite during the summer months."

Save Our Falmouth voiced concerns about the plans at the time, writing a letter to Mark Ball, Cornwall Principal Development Officer, regarding developers persistently making formal requests to waive conditions attached to local planning applications.

"We are most concerned that such requests now appear to be the norm, by both developers and applicants," the campaign group said.

However, this week the application was withdrawn.
