It was another win for Rowe's Cornish Bakers at the World Pasty Championships 2020.
Rowe's, with their head bakery based on Kernick Industrial Estate in Penryn, picked up where they left off last year. They won first prize for Best Cornish Pasty Company in 2019. This year they picked up first prize in the Open Savoury Company award with a chicken, leek, potato and onion pasty.
A spokesperson for Rowe's told Nub News:
"We are absolutely delighted to be rewarded with this honour at The World Pasty Championships 2020. Our dedicated team have been working very hard since our last year's win to make sure we stay on top of our games! Now we can proudly say that we are the World Pasty Championships Winners Two Years in a ROWE, we rather love that strapline, which you will no doubt hear a lot this year!
"Someone on Instagram tagged us a while ago saying that the Cornish treat their Cornish pasty makers like football teams, it is very true! There is a lot of pride and love in the Rowe's brand from our loyal customers and we are just so thrilled that we continue to deliver quality Cornish produce they love. We are very proud to be part of the Cornish heritage and will continue to stay true to our roots whilst growing our business sustainably."
The championships were held at The Eden Project in Cornwall on Saturday 29th February. Hopefuls came from all across the country to display their pasties.
Rowe's added:
"We have 2 very dedicated Development Chefs (Nick & Oscar) who are both very passionate in their work and are continually thinking of new exciting flavours & fillings. I do think though, that there is some friendly competition between the two as the Championships approach each year! Healthy competition can only be a good thing to get their creative juice flowing.
"As mentioned earlier, our team at New Product Development are very keen on staying authentic whilst constantly trying to break barriers, venturing out to new dimensions. Somehow, they manage to make it work beautifully with a great balance of tradition and new ideas. Naturally, when you have such a dedicated, hardworking and creative team, the bar of our standards are raised pretty high, and we intend to keep it that way."
So what makes a winning pasty? Rowe's gave us a hint to their success:
"It is really the whole package that makes a winning pasty. Lots of TLC, fresh locally sourced ingredients and, just simply, being passionate about our products! We love what we do and that shows through our products!"
