Welcome to the sixth instalment of our "an afternoon with" series. These articles are all about celebrating a variety of businesses and individuals in our community. It doesn't matter how big or how small, we want to provide original coverage on those that are making an impact around our wonderful town.

Tucked away out of the centre of town, Little Red Rooster is an authentic, family-run, American diner that has gained an amazing reputation through word and mouth.

Husband and wife owners, Rebecca and Mike, had the vision of creating the diner as they drove past the then derelict building - having just moved to Falmouth after quitting their jobs and selling their house in Manchester.

Speaking to Rebecca, she said:

"You can probably tell we are fairly big risk-takers.

"The building was derelict for good reason as it's extremely hard to develop on network rail land.

Mike and Rebecca were up for the challenge though.

Architect and family friend, Peter Bowker, redesigned the building so that it could be built from the inside - as to not use any of the railways land.

"We weren't allowed scaffolding so we had to lift up the sides like a jigsaw from the inside."

With some hard work and help from Rebecca's builder dad, Little Red Rooster was born.

Mike is the only chef who works in the diner which he says is to keep consistency in his menu.

The passion and love for the food served in the diner can be tasted with every bite.

Absolutely everything in Little Red Rooster is homemade and fresh.

Even down to the signature, super hot, Boom Boom Sauce.

"We are never standing still with our menu. Having such a close-knit bond with our customers means we can hear constant feedback.

"This allows us to keep popular things on the menu and tweak things that need to be improved.

"We have recently changed our Louisianna Sauce to be made with Carolina Reaper chillies, which are mega hot.

"We are so happy with how everything is at the moment.

"It has been a great experience to see it perfected and the feedback we get makes everything worth it."

Not having the strongest social media and advertising presence is usually a huge warning sign to any business - but Little Red Rooster is an example of word and mouth being just as effective.

"We have had people coming down from all kinds of places, just because they've heard about us from someone they know."

Little Red Rooster might be tucked away from the main footfall of Falmouth town, but the quality is so high that it is more than worth the extra 4-minute stroll.
