After Lockdown: Falmouth pub looks to the future

In our new segment 'After Lockdown', we will be looking into the future with Falmouth businesses to think about how things will be once the pandemic has settled down.

With so much changed already, we have to be aware that there will need to be many more changes in our usual behaviour as restrictions continue to ease.

A pub, usually somewhere to rub shoulders with fellow drinkers and sometimes socialise with strangers, will be a much different experience when the government deem them safe to reopen.

The Seaview Inn, situated on Wodehouse Terrace, is a resident favourite for many - featuring local real ale and a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

Michael Oliver, the Landlord, spoke with Nub News about how things will be changing in his establishment once the public is allowed to visit again.

"In anticipation of opening there are obviously a lot of things that need to be considered for the safety of staff and customers," he told us.

"We will be implementing seven hand pump sanitation stations throughout the premises. There will be directional and informational signage for customers to adhere to and we will continue to only accept contactless payment."

The pub wants to make sure they will be utilising their space effectively, as visitors in close proximity will no longer be the way a pub operates.

"We are currently planning how best to utilise our front and back outdoor spaces to enable more space for customers to sit and stand whilst adhering to the 2 metre distancing measures.

"We are expecting that team members will be required to wear face masks at all times and wiping of all surfaces used will be continuous.

"The team will be informed of all rules and regulations in place to understand our new way of working and ensure the safety of our customers, and themselves."

The pub is currently offering food takeaway three days per week (delivery for the elderly and vulnerable), as well as drinks, take away 5 days per week, all requiring advance booking.

They have told Nub News they continue to reassess their situation on a weekly basis, based on restrictions and government guidelines.

"Our hope is that in the not so distant future we will be able to open without restrictions, spend time with our community again and have all team members back at work," Michael concluded.
