Things seem to be looking up for the Princess Pavilion as Falmouth Town Council and Friends of the Princess Pavilion look to accelerate plans to reopen the site.

Speaking with Simon Neild on Inside Local Music yesterday, Pavilion General Manager Hayley May said those involved with the plans are looking to get it open "as soon as possible."

Also on the show was Sound Engineer Carey Davis who has been involved with the pavilion for almost 30 years.

Simon labelled the two superheroes and the people who "will put this all back together."

Hayley said:

"Hopefully, that is the plan. The Pavilion is closed at the moment and we have been closed since March which has obviously thrown a spanner in the works for all of our programming and hard work.

"We are currently hoping there is enough community interest to push the ball forward and get it reopened as soon as possible really."

Hayley held a Zoom meeting last week with a small group of people who are interested in giving a bit more time into the planning.

She continued:

"The response has been positive so far, I started with making a Facebook page called 'Friends of the Princess Pavilion' and that is up to about 1800 people which is a quicker uptake than I was thinking.

"We have been in talks with Falmouth Town Council and they offered to help us with this. They are in the same boat as we are and want to get in open as soon as possible."

This week we reported that Falmouth Town Council had made an approach to take over the site and gardens.

"Falmouth Town Council is really supportive of this sort of thing," Simon said.

During the show, Simon went down "memory lane" as he played tunes from acts who have played at the pavilion including Reef.

Switching her attention to the plans, Hayley commented:

"We just want it to be more of a community-focused venue again, it will be getting it reopened with a team in place and then taking on a lot of feedback from the community so I have been running a survey alongside it as well where people can input their suggestions and see what things they want to see down there.

"We are doing a business plan at the moment and planning for the main things that we were doing before, how can we get back into running events, how can we host weddings safely and get back to some normality of being open, also adding some important community things that people want to see down there."

Hayley also suggested how the venue could open "covid safely" with the gardens, restaurant and the theatre space all big enough for social distancing.

"It might be smaller things for now but I believe we can do something good with it," she added.
