The Cornwall Chamber of Commerce and Cornwall Council have expressed their concerns following the news that Flybe has gone into administration.
The Cornwall Chamber of Commerce said in a statement:
"Despite Flybe's collapse in the early hours of this morning being a huge blow to the Cornish business community and beyond, we remain positive for the future.
"The Cornish community should feel reassured that a public service obligation (PSO) is in place until 2022 which permits a subsidised route from Cornwall to London.
"Talks are underway between the government and Cornwall Airport Newquay bosses to discuss a way forward to ensure that Cornwall remains connected to the rest of the UK and beyond.
"The route between Newquay and London is profitable with business users and the tourism industry and therefore we hope to see another airline step into this route quickly – we look forward to hearing the outcome of these talks but in the meantime, our thoughts are with all of those affected by the downfall of Flybe."
Cornwall Council has said it will try to minimise disruption for passengers who were due to travel with Flybe to and from Newquay.
Cornwall Council cabinet portfolio holder for transport, Geoff Brown, added:
"I am deeply concerned by the news that Flybe has gone into administration. This is a blow, not only for our residents and visitors to Cornwall but also for the staff the airline employs.
"Flybe's collapse will have an impact on regional airports and travellers across the country, including here in Cornwall where many passengers relied on the airline to connect them to other parts of the UK and mainland Europe."
