Yesterday morning, another delivery of fresh fruit and vegetables was distributed to members of the community at Pennycomequick, Killigrew Street.
Two tonnes of fresh food has been delivered to the communities most vulnerable; the elderly, families in food poverty and other vulnerable people in isolation.
Organised by Robin Markland, a few weeks ago with a rapid two-week appeal, he is now applying for government funding due to great success.
Robin, the creator of the charitable organisation Community Heart, told Nub News:
"Each and every box is making a massive difference... A 90-year-old lady said ''Its the nicest thing anyone has ever done for me
"A big thank you to everyone who contributed to the recent crowdfunder, to The Pennycomequick pub, for allowing us to use their premises as a distribution hub and to Rubicund, a local cafe for supplying coffee."
The food boxes offer residents an opportunity to cook healthy meals together and experiment with new types of vegetables and fruits and to their own taste and portion size.
Robin added:
"Crucially, food to the door reduces the need for people to leave their homes during these most pivotal times where it is crucial that people stay in as much as possible.
"Each box has enough fresh food for a week, but it is obviously far more than that - I have witnessed that they really are a rainbow delivered to their door and a much-needed boost to help alleviate isolation fatigue and also an expression of solidarity with people from all walks of life.
"People have often been in tears. It has been a very humbling experience. There are hungry people out there who haven't seen fresh food for more than a month.
As people came to collect their boxes they thanked Robin for the hard work, one resident said:
''Have just received my box. What a really lovely surprise did not know there was going to be so much nourishing food. I am so grateful to you for all the effort you have put into your community. You were sent from God I think. Thank you again."
A driver said how one lady who received her box broke down in tears. She is a cancer sufferer and needs fresh food to help her stay healthy.
She said:
"Thank you so much, Robin. I will try to raise some funds for your cause''
