Extra measures are being taken to tackle the ongoing problem of dog fouling in Falmouth.

As revealed by Jayne Kirkham yesterday evening, Councillors and Falmouth Town Council have been receiving increasing complaints of dog fouling in the town and particularly on the beaches and along Cliff Road.

Both councils will be putting on extra enforcement patrols and signage to warn people of the fines that can be imposed for dog fouling.

Cornwall Council's Dog Warden/Enforcement Officer added:

"Combating fouling problems are difficult unless an offence is witnessed, or we know who the culprits are. If a member of the public witnesses a fouling incident, we urge them to report it to us as it could then possibly be dealt with by way of taking a statement & issuing a fixed penalty if enough information is known.

The information the Council needs for a further investigation is as follows:

  • Time and date of the incident
  • Brief description of subject/dog and what happened
  • Name and/or address of subject*
  • Vehicle registration if one present*

  • At least one of these will be required to investigate the matter further.
