The Liner Falmouth: Council's "strong objection" to parking restriction proposal

Falmouth Town Council have said there will be a strong letter of refusal in response to the proposed parking restrictions at The Liner.

This was in last nights planning committee meeting with the proposal for no waiting restrictions put forward for Cliff Road.

A consultation opened recently for residents to have a say on parking restrictions at The Liner development.

Cormac Solutions on behalf of Cornwall Council are proposing restrictions on waiting and loading plus a dedicated loading bay (at any time) on Cliff Road.

The planning committee said they were "not happy" with the plans on a road that has always had parking for disabled people and in the winter parking for anyone to use.

Falmouth mayor, councillor Steve Eva said:

"Just because someone puts a building up it doesn't mean that should change, this piece of parking is there for the people of Falmouth to use and it should be left there."

Councillor O'Shea said he was "up in arms" about it, as there will be less space for people to park and it means a long distance for people who struggle to walk very far.

The reason behind the consultation is because Cormac believes a speed cushion needs to be on the road. However, the committee unanimously believes parking is still needed there, for the disabled, loading for the beach and the cafe.

Falmouth mayor, councillor Steve Eva added:

"I think we should send a letter saying we are completely against any changes in this piece of road, it has always been like this ever since I remember and there is no need to change it.

"Even if they put a cushion there they wouldn't need to restrict parking because if they have a white line on them you can legally park on them.

"If they want to put a speed bump in there it shouldn't make any difference to the parking there anyway."

The consultation ends on February 26th with the results to be published on March 27th.
