Speaking to Nub News, the owners of Falmouth restaurant, bar, and hotel Cutty Sark have called for better communication in future events following the G7.
Falmouth opened its gates to international media from the 11th-13th of June, with an influx of people heading into the town.
Despite the masses of people, Mark Martin, owner of the Cutty Sark, told Nub News that they had taken a hit with a 20% decrease in takings.
The Cutty Sark, Grove Place, sees a lot of customers parking on the road nearby, and in the surrounding car parks (which were out of use), and they saw nobody coming off the trains, with customers/guests choosing to avoid the area.
All these things took a hit on the business, with Mark saying a serious communication issue was another issue throughout the summit.
"There was a real lack of engagement on a business level," Mark told Nub News.
He continued:
"The actual whole event was strange, a strange few days. It was an interruption to our business as we are trying to find our way out of a global pandemic."
The business couldn't have got much closer, with the International Media Centre based just a short walk across at Events Square.
Speaking ahead of possible future events, Mark said he would like to see more involvement from local businesses, adding:
"Businesses need to be heard a little bit more, treat us like grown-ups instead of kids. It felt like we weren't valued, when in fact we were supporting part of it all.
"However, there were some bits we can take out of it which were fun and exciting."
