Development works close road next to Gyllyngvase Beach for a month

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

The main road next to Gyllyngvase Beach is to be closed for around a month for development works.

The closure (on Cliff Road) comes into force from today, 25th until February 26th, the development work is connected to The Liner.

The prohibition will be in force 24 hours a day, weekends included.

The road closure is labelled as "S278 works" means it allows developers to make permanent alterations or improvements to a public highway, as part of a planning approval.

Kevin Bryant, Head of Highways and Infrastructure for Cornwall Council said:

"Notice is hereby given that Cornwall Council intends to make the above order in exercise of its powers to prohibit the use by traffic over an area of the highway being Cliff Road, Falmouth between the junction for Queen Mary Road and the junction for Gyllyngvase Hill.

"The Council is satisfied that the order is needed because works are being executed on or near the road to carry out development works."

"Nothing in this order will apply to traffic associated with the works required within the highway specified above, any vehicle being used for the purposes of an undertaker in an emergency, such as loss of utility supplies and anything done with the permission of or at the discretion of a police officer."

A diversion route is also in use, is as follows...

  1. Head north-west on Cliff Rd towards Stracey Rd
  1. Continue onto Spernen Wyn Rd
  1. Turn right onto Pennance Rd
  1. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Melvill Rd/A39
  1. At the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto Castle Hill
  1. Slight right onto Castle Dr
  1. Turn right onto Cliff Rd
