Falmouth has seen four confirmed deaths related to the coronavirus, according to the latest figures released today (May 1st).

The figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) show, for the first time, deaths at a local level for people who have contracted Covid-19.

All four deaths have been in Falmouth East, with Falmouth West and North recording no confirmed deaths.

Penryn has unfortunately also seen one death relating to the virus.

Deaths are reported by postcode area, which is why exact places are not revealed for the towns.

The statistics listed are for deaths where Covid-19 was the underlying cause or was mentioned on the death certificate as a contributory factor, between March 1 and April 17.

The UK has seen its confirmed cases pass the 170,000 mark – Thursday's figure being up a further 6,032 to 171,253. It has now overtaken the German and French totals and put the UK in fourth place in the 'case' league table.
