This week members of the Nankersey Male Choir were presented with awards for their years of service.

David Laity was presented with an award after 70 years of service in the choir.

Musical Director Elaine Tangye celebrated 30 years with the choir, starting out as the accompanist in November 1990 and later becoming Director in 1998.

Philipp Richards was honoured for 15 years of service.

David described being "over the moon" by the recognition.

David said:

"It is a wonderful gesture and the awards look beautiful.

"I started when I was about 13 years of age with my father and grandfather at the Methodist Chapel. My father and I used to walk up to Penryn and when we were finished one day my father said we were going to start a choir.

"We gradually increased after originally starting with 12 people, we have had some wonderful times.

"We had about 20 odd years at Princess Pavilion once a week and we were one of the famous choirs at the time. We have had some hard times as well but we have made a lot of money for charity.

"We are a family, we know each other, we have our problems but we are a happy choir and I am enjoying it with the boys they look after me that is how we work."
