Benow is an annual festival of events, ideas, art, community, and activism to explore and celebrate the culture of women. All welcome. We believe in the importance of conversations and connections, as a means to promote change and improve people's life.

A short film festival showcasing three films that explore our relationship with nature, the environment, and climate change from the perspective of women. There will be a panel discussion and audience Q+A at the end with some of the films, directors, and producers. Refreshments will be provided.

Falmouth Art Gallery 18:30 - 21:00

THE FILMS:

'Daughter' is a short film imagined and produced by Dot Dot Dash for International Women's Day with the goal of highlighting the intersectionality of the climate crisis as it pertains to women. As parents of daughters, we felt compelled to amplify the voices and perspectives of young women who are facing down this unprecedented crisis. This film is dedicated to women and girls around the world and to our shared mother, Earth.

'Food for Thought' looks at the environmental impact of livestock change. This has become one of the most contentious and hotly-discussed subjects within the climate debate - and it's of key importance in Cornwall, where nearly all of our land is either used for grazing cows and sheep or to grow crops for those animals to eat. Instead of talking to people within a particular echo chamber, it attempts to spark meaningful conversation, by including a wide range of viewpoints, from academics to conventional farmers just starting out on their regenerative journey and Animal Rebellion activists. The film is presented by Lisa Guy, an organic beef farmer from near Land's End, who very consciously uses her small herd of cattle to manage the wild landscape of her farm.

'Through Her Eyes' is a collaborative project involving women filmmakers, specifically in the Global South, to tell their story of the climate crisis. From Kazakhstan, to the Philippines, to Indonesia, female filmmakers have been working closely with producer Pauline Blanchet (Producer) to depict the truth of the environment in their local community. Covering topics such as plastic pollution, severe rainfall, and menstruation waste, this full-length documentary highlights a diverse range of issues threaded together by talented filmmakers from around the world.
