Falmouth Town under-18s finally had the chance to celebrate their Kernow Youth Football League championship triumph when they were awarded their winner's medals at Bickland Park on Wednesday night.

The triumphant squad, which clinched the league title by four points from nearest rivals St Blazey, had won the championship on May 13 and eventually received their medals six weeks later – finally bringing the curtain down on a memorable campaign.

It has been a whirlwind 12 months for Town's under-18s team, which was only re-formed last summer under the stewardship of head coach Dave Turner.

The team quickly made their presence felt and swiftly became the last Cornish side standing in last season's FA Youth Cup, defeating Ilfracombe Town and Elburton Villa away from home before giving National League outfit Torquay United an almighty scare in a close-fought 3-1 defeat at Bickland Park.

Attention swiftly turned to their maiden Kernow Youth League campaign, and Town took to the challenge like ducks to water with Turner's side dropping just seven points all season, winning all eight of their home games in the process.

An exciting title race came down to Town's final game at home to second-placed St Blazey. Anything other than a win would have given either Blazey or Helston Athletic the chance to snatch the title, but goals from Coen Briggs, Alfie Hicks and Connor McCarthy clinched a 3-0 win and confirmed a memorable title for Town.

Sharp-shooting forward Olly Pickup found the net 11 times to land the top goalscorer award, while Toby Fletcher's efforts between the sticks at the other end earned him the manager's player of the season prize.

Connor McCarthy's performances caught his team-mates' eyes as he claimed the players' player award, while forward Jos Plummer was named the team's most improved player.

The team also wishes to thank main shirt sponsors Fuel Specialist Services and training shirt sponsors Salmon and Collett Building Services for their support throughout the season.
