Falmouth Town begin the final week of their first Western League campaign since 1983 with their final away journey of the season tonight when they head to Welton Rovers (kick-off 7.45 pm).

Andrew Westgarth's side are enjoying another strong run of form as the season begins to wind down, with Town winning six of their last nine games.

Town are already assured of at least eighth position in the league, and victory on Tuesday night would give them a chance of leapfrogging Shepton Mallet into seventh.

Opposition view

Welton, who are managed by Tom Smith, are enjoying their first season back in the Western League Premier Division since the Somerset outfit won promotion from Division One via the play-offs last season, ending a run of six consecutive years out of the Western League's top flight.

The newly-promoted side were enjoying their best run of the season prior to their defeat at Bickland Park a month ago, having won four of their last seven games before that game. Although they have failed to win since that game, that run had helped Rovers bounce back from a challenging first half of the season and saw them climb to 14th in the table with 36 points to their name from 35 games.

Welton have scored 51 goals in all competitions this season, with Lewis Russell leading the way with 11 strikes in 38 games, while Ben Wych is next on the list with six goals this term.

"The away games have been relentless and unforgiving at times. It's the Western League in a nutshell: you can be one team at home and you can be a completely different side away. The difference between the top sides and the sides who aren't is their ability to win away because I think everybody in this league has got a good home record. 

"It'll be good for us to tick it off and see if we can compete against a side like Welton away and the challenges that presents: distance, travelling, squad depth, [and it being] on a Tuesday night when we haven't got the support behind us, so they ask a lot of questions of you and it's one we definitely need to rise to."
