Penryn girls earn Cornwall call-up

Fourteen players from Penryn RFC's girl's section have been selected to represent their county this season, with six joining the Cornwall's U18 girls squad and a further eight in the U15s, more than doubling the club's representation from last season.

Eight of the girls will be making their county debuts this season, and Penryn will also be represented on both coaching teams as well.

Selected over a two-weekend trial which saw the girls playing matches both on the artificial surface at Callywith College and on more familiar ground at Penryn, the selected girls have already had their first training session in preparation for the county campaigns which start on the 23rd February.

The U18s selected into the squad of thirty-one girls are prop Megan Moriarty, hooker Holly Derrante, flanker Ellie Beynon, number eight Lucy Rendle, utility back Sasha Friggens and a county debut for winger Chelsea Heidstrom. They're joined by Penryn Ladies head coach Ronan O'Neill who is Head Coach and Backs Coach for the U18s.

Representing Penryn in the thirty-strong U15s squad are the front row of Maeya Mason, Poppy Pentecost and Charlotte Picton, plus Daisy Munns at blindside flanker. In the backs, Tecca Ford is at scrum-half, Milly Osman - the only Penryn U15 not making her county debut – shifts up the line to fly-half, making room for both Lily Relton and Millie Brown at inside centre, whilst Penryn Girls head coach Ross Tucknott reprises his role as Cornwall U15 Girls Backs Coach.

Whilst the county teams are away, there'll still be plenty of rugby for everyone else too, with extra U13s and U15s fixtures now set over the next six weeks plus the culmination of the XGirl Cup, so now is the perfect time to come and try rugby! The girls train at the club every Thursday evening from 6:30-8pm and are looking for new team-mates.

No experience required, bring a water bottle, gum shield and boots and prepare for a bit of mud and plenty of fun! (plus the occasional social, like last week's curry night at the club... thank you Beany's that was delicious!) Contact team manager Melissa Pentecost for more details.
