'A great coup': Penryn chosen to host Tour of Britain sprint races

By Joseph Macey 16th Sep 2021

Exciting news for Penryn residents and Tour of Britain enthusiasts as the town has been chosen to host sprints on the first day (5th September).

The sprints are a way that the riders can earn extra points and win the sprint top to wear during the next race.

One of two sprint events on the opening day, it is expected to be held along Commercial Road where a 1k marker will be in place.

The sprint race will be taking place at approximately 1:15pm - 1:30pm when the riders come through Penryn, on the way from Falmouth and into Truro.

There will be crowd fencing and a finish line which will be near the Durgan Lane junction, as to tie in with the 'Party in the Park'.

The Party in the Park is a free music event being held in Trelawney Park by the Penryn Events Committee.

A spokesperson for Penryn Town Council added:

"The event opens at 12pm with the Mayor Julie Tucker's introduction at 12:25pm and goes on until 5pm with The Quest, Bo River, and The Ritzy Belles performing.

"Great opportunity for families to bring a picnic listen to music and watch the race."
