The Flanagan's School of Irish Dance which is based in Truro but also runs lessons in Falmouth, became world champions this year and will be performing at the Princess Pavilion on the 15th of July.

The team won their first British title in Brighton back in October where they also had 2nd and 3rd place against some of the most talented dancers in the UK.

This qualified them to go and compete in the World Championships back in April this year in Killarney INEC centre. The dancers entered several categories and were shocked to be placed 1st in the World for the 4-hand championship in the over 30 categories out of 24 teams.

The team that became world champions Geraldine Ritchie, Vince Smart, (Teacher)Annie Richardson-Flanagan, Eithne McCarthy and Amelia Messer

Scoring 450 points out of 500 from five of the top adjudicators from around the globe, Annie Richardson Flanagan who runs the school said: "We were thrilled to bring back some beautiful trophies for Cornwall.

"We entered for the experience and to have a fun trip to Ireland so we were over the moon to win a World title, you can see our dancers on the 15th of July in the Princess Pavilion."

Doors will open at 15:00 pm for a 15:30 start and will showcase traditional Irish dancing, live music, and history. The pupils of the Flanagan's School of Irish Dance will be performing the true story of Ireland's notorious Pirate Queen.

When describing the event Annie said: "A fierce female chieftain who ruled the seas, Graínne Ní Mhaille is an extraordinary female figure in history. Although this unusual Queen may have been left out of some history books, vivid accounts of her are documented by the English, including a run-in with our very own Queen Elizabeth l.

"Our traditional Irish dance school is made up of complete beginners all the way up to current British and World title holders. We will also have special guests Krelys, a lively traditional Irish Band playing a wonderful 1-hour interval set, for the most authentic evening of Irish culture.
