Windsport International, based in Mylor has had plans approved for new camping pitches.

The granting of the permission will see a change of use for a field currently used as boat and trailer parking to include the addition of 16 camping pitches.

Since originally starting up, more than 37 years ago, as a sailing school, Windsport has grown, developed and has become

a leading performance sailing and water-sports business in the UK.

Windsport and Mylor have become a very popular base for sailors and watersport users at all levels.

In a covering letter, Tom Phipps, Co-Director of Windsport International wrote:

"The ability to host camping on a year-round basis would enable Windsport to offer fantastic water-sport packages, where clients will be able to stay on-site and enjoy not only the services provided by ourselves but also those from all of the other incredible local amenities, businesses and retailers.

"An annual camping license would allow us to create a unique venue, where sailors and water-sports enthusiast from all over the UK will be able to learn and enjoy this unrivalled stretch of water.

"It will enable our business to run more progressive courses and develop an individual's skills far more efficiently.

"National youth sailing has already expressed an interest in using the site for training camps, an annual license would give us the ability to host such camps and continue to raise the area's, already beaming, nautical profile."

The plans for the camping pitches were granted permission with some conditions, "the 16 camping pitches shall be used only for the siting of touring caravans (including motorised caravans) and tents, and no static caravans shall be stationed," was written in the concluding documents.

"If the business ceases or moves on, the site should be returned to its former appearance to protect the visual amenity of the area, which is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty," was another condition.
