This week, The Seaview Inn on Wodehouse Terrace was awarded an 8.8 rating for being 'loved by guests' on Hotels.Com and maintained their 4.5/5 rating from TripAdvisor.

The business really is booming for this hard-working team, but what is the secret to their success? Nub News sat down with Rebecca Hopkins, manager at The Seaview to find out more.

Rebecca, said: "The award is really nice, because to us the most important thing is the customer, always. If there is a mistake, it is always about them and rectifying it, we try to give everyone the same experience.

"Everyone gets the same attention when they come here, so they feel at home almost. We have quite a relaxed atmosphere here, but they know they will get good food and good drink, with decent prices."

The team at The Seaview also supported the Classic Quarter Trail run, which Nub News covered recently. The fundraiser was in aid of CALM (Campaign against living miserably) and has raised nearly £3,000 now with The Seaview Angels also raising £415.08.

Rebecca added: "We like to do stuff with the community, people come here for birthdays and we set up an area for them, it is great.

"I think people know they can be themselves here, you want to work hard for Mike (The landlord) because he is such a good guy, he is just such a lovely person and so kind to his staff. I think people respect that."

In 2018, The Guardian cited statistics from The Office for National Statistics, as it was reported more than 25% of UK pubs have closed since 2001. That is a damning statistic, but what keeps a pub going?

Rebecca, put emphasis on the customer experience and staff atmosphere as the way to keep business going: "It all trickles down from Mike (Landlord) and his brother Tony (Kitchen), the way they do things is always customers first, looking after your staff and making everyone feel welcome.

"We genuinely want people to come in and have a lovely time and to have as much as a lovely time as we do working here, you want to know about the guests and hear about their stories and then take them up to the room and show them the view, they are pleased with it and you get satisfaction from that.

Rebecca also expressed her delight at the awards: "It arrived in the post, I was really excited. I am really pleased that the people that come in here, our community, I would call the people who come in here our community, are pleased we have got it.

"There is always room for improvement in my opinion, from the pub perspective everything is great, what everyone does is amazing. I would like to do a more professional job on social media and engage with local businesses a bit more, but apart from that it is working so I would not change anything."

The pub has a really warm feel to it and is dog-friendly which is a fantastic touch. The pub boasts an array of gins and local ales, so many gins that The Seaview now has its own gin menu.
