Falmouth Community Fire Station has put out a warning to residents following a bin fire at Pendennis Point yesterday afternoon.

Blue Watch attended the fire which is said to have been started by a disposable BBQ.

A spokesperson for the fire station said:

"Do not place a disposable barbeque in a rubbish bin until it has cooled down completely!

"Make sure your barbeque is placed on level ground where it will not tip over. ... Never use a barbeque indoors or inside a tent, the carbon monoxide that they produce can kill."

With the sun forecasted to be shining for the rest of the week, it is important to be safe when using disposable BBQs.

• Study the instructions closely

• Only use a barbeque in well-ventilated areas

• Never place a barbeque on anything flammable - the foil base gets very hot

• Leave the barbeque to cool down before attempting to move it - this may take several hours

• Make sure the barbeque is fully extinguished by pouring plenty of water or sand onto it
